This past weekend, my family and I put our wonderful 12-year-old dog Simba to sleep. He was very sick. It has been devastating, to say the least. Many who do not have pets or whom have never lost one cannot understand the pain we’re going through. My mom explains to her friends, “Simba is the one that was always there, when nobody else was.” When there was no one else in the house, he was the one keeping you company, following you everywhere you went. He was a true companion and friend, and it is hard to get used to him not being there anymore.
What my mom said – “Simba is the one that was always there, when nobody else was” – made me think. Simba was created by God and provided to us by Him. God gave and He took away. What is amazing is that God doesn’t leave us alone, EVER! How many people do I have in my life now that I didn’t have before? Many. And they are a manifestation of my Father in Heaven, just like Simba was. I see God in so many places and that is how I know He’s looking out for me and is with me. I see Him in my mom, in my husband, in my brothers and sisters, in my friends, and sometimes in random strangers. He uses these people to show me love and give me comfort.
People/animals leave our lives, but new ones come in. And, He is ALWAYS there – our Heavenly Father. He takes many forms (Mark 16:12, Matthew 25:40). Jesus said,
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. ” John 14:16-20 (NKJV)
Do you see Jesus? Do you feel His presence in your life? Remember He is Spirit (John 4:24), so He won’t have a specific physical appearance. In order to recognize Him, you must know Him (John 14:7-11) – His characteristics (Acts 17:24-29). He is not far from any of us.
I know what my mom was saying when she said that Simba was the one that was always there, but technically, my mom was wrong. The one who is always there is God! His physical appearance might change, but the Spirit is the same.
